It is not usually a question of skill or equipment — it is a rule that got missed, a culvert that was the wrong size, or a locate ticket that had expired by the time the machine showed up. Faulkner County driveways
Faulkner County requires a culvert that is concrete or galvanized tile, 15 inches in diameter and 24 feet long, set in a 50-foot right of way measured from the center of the road. The county requires a minimum 24-foot roadbed, a minimum 20-foot driving surface, and at least 6 inches of compacted Class 7 gravel for base. A permit is required before any road, driveway, curb, gutter or drainage work begins on a dedicated street, and it goes through the County Judge's office. When a dam is regulated
In Arkansas a dam is only state-regulated if it is 25 feet or taller AND impounds 50 acre-feet or more at normal pool. Both criteria, not either one. Virtually every farm pond, stock pond and backyard pond falls well under that and is not a regulated dam. A smaller dam can still become regulated if it threatens something downstream, through a petition and hearing process — so it is worth checking before you build, not after.
The Arkansas 811 window
Arkansas law requires notifying the One Call Center at least two, but not more than ten, full working days before excavating or demolishing. It is a window, not just a minimum — call three weeks out and the ticket has expired by the time the machine arrives. The notice is good for 20 working days. The responsibility cannot be delegated by contract: a general contractor cannot call the ticket in for the excavating subcontractor. Dial 811 or 1-800-482-8998.
